Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak (July 23, 1856 - August 1, 1920), was an Indian nationalist, social reformer and independence fighter who was the first popular leader of the Indian Independence Movement and was described by the British as "Father of the Indian unrest."
His slogan, "Swaraj (Self Rule) is my birthright", inspired millions of Indians. Gandhi called Tilak "The Maker of Modern India".
It is the ancient name for India - Bharatavarsha. There is a mention in the Vishnu Purana of the extent of the kingdom. The name is said to be derived from King Bharatha, the son of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala. The first Article of the Constitution of India states that "India, that is Bharath, shall be a union of states."
A character in the Hindu epic Ramayana - He was Rama's brother, the second of the four sons of king Dhasharatha who ruled over Ayodhya.
When he was forced to govern Ayodhya, he did his duty, not as a ruler, but only as Rama's representative. He placed Rama's sandals at the foot of the throne, and refused to be crowned
Koodalmanikyam Temple in Irinjalakuda, Kerala is dedicated to the worship of Bharata (Lord Sangameshwara).
The temple is one of four in Kerala that form a set called Nalambalam, with each temple dedicated to one of the four brothers in the Ramayana epic: Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna.
