General information about India - W
Warli art - a tradition with the tribals (Warli tribe of east India) to decorate the mud walls. They are typically painted in the form of murals on the inside walls of Warli huts and are repeatedly erased and replaced by new paintings at the time of rituals.
It is done on an austere mud base using one color, white with occasional dots in red and yellow. Warli painting is simple and linear with the maximum use of triangular shape. The central motif in these ritual paintings is surrounded by scenes portraying trees, hunting, fishing and farming, festivals and dancers, musicians, men, women & children in their every day activities. Usually the Warli paintings are done during the marriage ceremony and they call them as “Lagnacha chauk” meaning marriage paintings.
