Dr. P.V.Krishnamurthy, eminent Kannada epigraphist and historian, is the Winner of the V Venkayya Epigraphy Award for 2023.
Dr Krishnamurthy will receive the Award on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at an Award function from the Chief Guest of the occasion, Shri N Gopalaswami, IAS (Retd.), Former Chief Election Commissioner of India.

The one-of-its-kind Award was instituted by Smt. Sunitha Madhavan, the great-granddaughter of Shri V Venkayya. The Award commemorates Rai Bahadur Shri V Venkayya, a pioneering Epigrapher who was the first Indian Chief Epigraphist to the Government of India.
The annual V Venkayya Epigraphy Award (VVE Award) aims to recognize exceptional individual contributions, in any Indian language, towards the discovery of unrecorded inscriptions, interpretation of inscriptions from a refreshingly new perspective, dissemination of wealth of knowledge contained in them by conventional as well as digital medium and preservation of Epigraphic resources for posterity.
The winner was chosen by a jury comprising experts from the field of epigraphy, history, and heritage.

Dr P V Krishnamurthy (fondly called PVK or Dr. PVK) did his Post graduation in Kannada from the University of Mysore. Additionally, he obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, and retired as Engineer. In the year 2000, he earned his D. Litt (Ph.D.) from Kannada University, Hampi for his study on the inscriptions of Bana Kings.
Dr. PVK has been teaching Epigraphy under the aegis of Kannada Sahitya Parishat for many years now. He is also an Honorary Lecturer in Manuscriptology at IGNCA, Bangalore and B.M. Sri. Pratishtana.
One of the foremost Epigraphers in Karnataka now, Dr. PVK's research is of exceptional quality, often serving as the standard by which others are measured. His deep understanding of the multilingual and inter-state approach to studying history is remarkable.
He has authored several books on various subjects such as Epigraphy, History, Travelogue etc., Some of his well-known books are Baanarasara Shaasanagalu ondu Adhyayana (A Study of Bana Dynasty Inscriptions), Tamilunadina Kannada Shasangalu (Kannada Inscriptions of Tamilnadu), Bempur Isvara Sthanada Devalayagalu - Shaasanagalu : ondu paricaya (Temples & Inscriptions of Bempur Isvara Sthana, an Introduction); AanenaaDu (The Ancient History of Anekal Taluk), Suguturu Veerashaiva Arasumanetana (Veerashaiva Royal Families of Suguturu) Vindhya Narmadheyara Naadinalli (In the Land of the Vindhya & Narmada - A Travelogue) Shasana Manthana and Shasana Itihasa Manthana (Collection of Research Articles in Inscriptions and History)
He has edited 19 volumes of Itihasa Darshana, which are the proceedings of the Seminar and Research Papers, for the Karnataka Itihasa Academy. He has also edited Kannada University Inscriptions-Volume IV. He has written more than 170 articles/papers in different research Journals, Felicitation, Commemoration, and in Encyclopedia Vols. etc.
