Tamil Heritage Trust - "Harappan Civilization: Emerging Perspectives" by V N Prabhakar
on-line talk in English on November 4, 2023, 5.30 pm
covering how field research conducted in the last several decades has enabled a better understanding of Harappan culture, its terminology, chronology, technology, and trade relations.
The Harappan Civilization flourished in the Greater Indus Region (Indus-Sarasvati-Gujarat-Makran) from c. 2600-1900 BCE. It is characterised by its urban character achieved through a long-drawn cultural development in the region. The domestication of plants and animals settled human life. This, in turn, contributed to t surplus food production, leading to multiple results, including a social hierarchy, differential access to raw materials and finished products, craft activities, and long-distance trade.
